UNITED STATES – On August 20, the U.S. continued its campaign of mass deportations by sending the first of a series of flights to Haiti, carrying 161 people. U.S. officials informed the Haitian government that they would send at least two flights a week, with over 100 people on each flight. As those being deported exited the initial flight, they were seen wearing identical all white clothing, with many covering their faces from journalists in an attempt to protect their safety.
The U.S. Supreme Court granted the Trump regime permission for these mass deportations, ruling in June that the Temporary Protected Status of 350,000 Haitian refugees could be revoked. The mass deportation of Haitian refugees has been a long term goal for Trump, who engaged in extensive fascistic dehumanization propaganda about Haitians during his campaign for a second term.
Deporting immigrants to Haiti is a severe violation of bourgeois democratic rights by the U.S. State. For eight years, the country has been in a severe crisis marked by the disintegration of the central government, allowing U.S. armed gangs to control large areas of the country in collaboration with the Haitian comprador and bureaucrat bourgeoisie. In 2023, the situation spiraled into a full scale armed conflict that continues to this day. An estimated 16,000 people have been killed in the violence through January 2026, thousands have been kidnapped, and an estimated 1.5 million have been displaced. The breakdown of normal life in Haiti extends beyond outright violence; the United Nations estimates that 5.7 million people, nearly half the population, are under a “crisis” level of food insecurity.
The U.S. backed Haitian government is responding to the crisis by waging a campaign of extrajudicial drone strikes on its civilians. Since March 2025, there have been 141 drone operations, killing more than a thousand people, including children. The drone campaign is being carried out with the close collaboration of Vectus Global, a U.S. based private military company founded by Erik Prince. Prince is a close ally of Trump and previously founded Blackwater, a private military company infamous for massacring fourteen unarmed Iraqi civilians in 2007. With the permission of the U.S. State Department, Vectus has signed a one year agreement with the Haitian government to play a central role in the drone campaign and to assist in border security.
The crisis in Haiti is a consequence of U.S. Imperialism holding the country as a semicolony since the 1800s. The U.S. has launched multiple military interventions in Haiti to protect its interests. Today, this continues in a new form, with the U.S. bourgeoisie being given a direct hand in administering these operations.
In cities across the country with significant Haitian populations, hundreds have been summoned to appear before the Department of Homeland Security, with many being fitted with ankle monitors. A 20 year old man who was subjected to this treatment later died by suicide. Many in these communities have reported that in the atmosphere of ICE’s terror, immigrants are forced to avoid leaving their homes for fear of being captured by ICE.
As the Democratic wing of U.S. Imperialism deliberates amongst itself on whether the agency at the forefront of the fascistization of the Old State should be cosmetically abolished or “reformed,” the communities terrorized by ICE operations are left with no option but to organize themselves and rely on their own strength. The campaigns of mass deportation and all other forms of national oppression must be met by mass resistance, with the perspective of overthrowing the imperialist Old State and the construction of the New State.
