Some comrades may have noticed that for the last few months a blog known as “The Worker” has written a series of unhinged “polemics” directed at what they refer to as the Right Opportunist Headquarters. The series of articles are likely a very strange spectacle to most onlookers, with their use of unique terms like “feces-stained mouths,” “diapers of division,” “septic tank,” etc. Yesterday, they published an article explicitly naming The Masses as part of this imagined liquidationist camp, as they say.
Despite the ridiculous and counterfactual nature of these polemics, the increasingly desperate attacks merit a short response, one that in part explains why we at The Masses do not take the substance of these polemics seriously, and why you shouldn’t as well.
“The Worker” is written by a set of old leaders from Tribune of the People, and those supportive of them. These leaders are upset that they have not been coronated as kings and queens of the Maoist movement again after their last political project spectacularly crashed, burned, and collapsed in 2022, as a result of a faction of their own internal leadership turning against them and destroying the whole project from the inside. They are particularly angry that there are those who have lead a re-organization effort which does not involve them, and which holds that the dysfunctional and incorrect old leadership must either be expelled, in the case of some, or submit themselves to rectification before full re-admission, in the case of others.
This is the fundamental cause of “The Worker“‘s multi-year hissy-fit: they feel they are entitled to national leadership, and others feel they are not worthy of leadership, and that they represent a series of major deviations and revisions from Marxism-Leninism-Maoism. To rhetorically justify their tantrum, they have invented an entire alternative reality where there is a purported “Right Opportunist Headquarters” which split from them, and that this alleged “splittism” is the main cause of this “Headquarters’” supposed liquidationism or revisionism.
No one has split from “The Worker.” “The Worker” did not even exist until May 2023. Some people involved in the publications and revolutionary mass organizations that compose the Revolutionary Front were ex-Tribune of the People members, but they became involved in our organizations and predecessor organizations like the Revolutionary Study Groups in the context of a complete organizational collapse and the anarchistic conditions during Spring 2022, not in the context of a split.
The People’s Defense Committee is not a split of anyone, and neither are any of its fraternal mass organizations like New Labor Organizing Committee and Revolutionary Student Union. The People’s Defense Committee emerged in Spring 2025 when unity was achieved through two-line struggle between a variety of local collectives as well as small national centers like the Revolutionary Maoist Coalition (RMC). Since then it has grown further to encompass new forces not associated with any prior body. To claim People’s Defense Committee is a split is amaterial, it simply did not happen. The collapse of the Committee to Reconstitute the Communist Party of the USA (CR-CPUSA) and Tribune of the People occurred three years prior to our founding, the dissolution of those bodies was initiated by genuine liquidationist elements who were internal to the CR-CPUSA, not the few former Tribune of the People members who united around the contemporary left line in the face of liquidation from misleaders and traitors. We do claim heritage from many different trends/camps, and seek to take the best lessons from all of them while rectifying and discarding their worst lines and aspects. In this sense the Revolutionary Front represents a new trend in the US revolutionary movement, one not mainly linked to NCP-OC lineage which spawned Maoist Communist Union, the Red Guards collectives (later CR-CPUSA), and MCP-OC.
Ironically it is the egoism and opportunism of “The Worker“‘s leaders which have actually caused a series of splits in our movement. They have and continue to concoct an endless series of contradictory lies and myths, often behind closed doors, in order to convince newer and younger comrades into following their sect. These lies and maneuvers have caused confusion and splits within mass organizations, particularly in the student sector. The Masses unequivocally stands against liquidationism and police work. Much like Students for People’s Democracy attacking Nazariya Magazine while remaining silent on the State repression they face, “The Worker” only throws out their lies and accusations against ourselves and our fraternal organizations when it is convenient for themselves and the State, while remaining silent on the ongoing repression faced by RSU activists, for example. It uses lies and intrigue to attempt to disrupt the collaborative and comradely relationship between us and our fraternal organizations in India, when in fact we resolutely support the Indian Revolution, and in no uncertain terms reject the liquidationist line in India.
Nazariya Magazine, when asked to comment on the situation, said the following:
In the present stage, we would prefer to limit ourselves to clarifying our own ideological stance on such matters, and not infringe on the ongoing line struggle in the United States for we lack the means and ability to investigate and take a concrete stance on that question.
We would start by pointing out that we are not against exposing sexual opportunists and the like. In fact, we carry a firm organisational stance against such acts to ensure that comrades working with us do not find the despicable patriarchal tendencies of the same old rotten semi-feudal semi-colonial social order being heedlessly perpetuated herein. However, working with the MLM principle of “curing the disease to save the patient”, we hold that if the guilty person working with us is remorseful of the act and wants to undergo the rigorous rectification to rid themselves of such patriarchal tendencies, then we must undertake such a rectification before asking the masses to expose or isolate the individual, ensuring a strict vigilance on the acitivities of the individual too. We also do not consider call-outs by themselves as “police-work”, it may be so that our sympathisers, the masses we work with, or even comrades within our own organisation who have grievances with us may sometimes resort to express themselves publicly before reporting it to our structure. In that case, we will not label them police informers or such, but approach them and clarify to them that such matters should be directly taken up with the structure and they will be dealt with in line with communist organisational principles — we are patient with the masses, and unyielding against the class-enemies. Only when our own investigation reveals that the case involves a conspiracy, or that the persistent slander has such motives, do we label it as police work.
About our relations with The Masses, and other MLM organs in the United States, the basis of it is the active rejection of Opportunism-Liquidationism-Revisionism in India and adherence to the general principles of MLM, including not platforming liquidationists which have been exposed to be such by MLM organisations in India. It was clarified to us that the current editorial structure of The Masses rejects SfPD as liquidationist, and we have not found reason to believe otherwise since, in our exchanges with comrades of the organ. Only through this criteria of adhering by the general principles of communist organising, can our fraternal relations be conducted and this will serve as the basis of international solidarity and work in the future too.
We appreciate the comrades at Nazariya for taking the time to clarify their position on this matter, in spite of the ongoing repression they and other members of the Indian revolutionary movement are currently facing. We agree quite strongly with their line on this question.
As stated in our March Editorial, our editorial board inherited this website and name from the former owners in September 2025. Before that point, The Masses was a publication of the now-defunct RMC starting in 2023, owned and operated by the prior editorial board. When RMC dissolved, both The Masses and the RMC chapter bodies themselves went through a complete rectification and transformation process as part of the transition to PDC. The name of the publication was kept in place because of its connection to the original The Masses of the 1910s. While we understand this name similarity might cause confusion, we do not consider “The Worker“‘s conflation genuine, but rather it is an opportunist attempt to paint PDC and RMC as one and the same. Fundamentally, the action of publishing that article was not ours, we had no part in it, and as previously clarified, we denounce Students for People’s Democracy and those who platform them as liquidationist.
We issue this article as a brief clarification, not as final statement. The political and ideological errors of “The Worker“‘s leaders are repetitions of the same opportunism and revisionism which have haunted our movement for decades, which is why longer form works that take a whole-revolutionary-movement approach are forthcoming from other comrades. In the mean time, comrades should look at the claims in articles of “The Worker” with intense skepticism, because they are divorced from reality and come from perennial agents of counter-revolution within our movement.
