MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, Jan. 7, 2026, approximately 9:30 a.m. Renee Nicole Good, 37, a U.S. citizen, mother and legal observer, was shot and killed by a masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent on a snowy residential block near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue. The killing occurred about 1 mile from the intersection where Minneapolis police murdered George Floyd on May 25, 2020. The cold-blooded execution comes as the Trump regime’s terror campaign expanded in the Twin Cities under Operation Metro Surge, a federal deployment of more than 2,000 agents under Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
Several bystander videos capture a brutal, seconds-long sequence: masked agents rush Renee Good’s SUV, pound the glass and shout overlapping commands and expletives. One agent yanks at the driver’s door handle and reaches in through the window, and another steps into position near the front quarter panel and fires three times into the vehicle. After the shots, the SUV continues forward without control and slams into parked cars and a pole down the block. ICE would not allow a man identifying as a physician to examine the driver, blocking first responders from the scene.
Good’s mother, Donna Ganger, called her “one of the kindest people I’ve ever known… She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.”. Good described herself on Instagram as a “poet and writer,” a “wife and mom,”, and “experiencing Minneapolis”. She was the mother of a 6-year-old, and wife of an as yet unnamed woman who could be heard saying in grieving cries “That’s my wife, I don’t know what to do…we’re new here we don’t have anyone” then pleading “We need a doctor”.
The Trump regime’s claim that the shooting was justified self-defense has been denied even by establishment Democrats, such as Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Frey, who called the federal story “garbage” and told ICE to “get the f— out of Minneapolis”. Noem, backed by President Donald Trump, labeled the incident “domestic terrorism,” with Trump and reactionary news outlets framing Good as a violent terrorist.
The killing led to righteous public outcry. As federal vehicles tried to leave, crowds surged into the street, chanting and screaming, including shouts of “Nazis,” while residents threw snowballs and blocked the convoy. Agents responded with force, using chemical irritants and so-called less-lethal munitions on the masses, turning a neighborhood street into a war-zone. By Wednesday night, the rage was not contained to Minneapolis. Demonstrations and emergency vigils were reported or announced across at least ten cities: New York City, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Milwaukee, San Antonio, Portland, Eugene, Pittsburgh, Charleston and Durham, with organizers in other metros pushing rapid response calls.
Operation Metro Surge was launched as an opening front of a new year crackdown tied to “fraud” allegations, flooding the Twin Cities with masked armed reactionary thugs. Reactionary media has recently alleged massive fraud at Somali-run child care centers with no proof, claims amplified by Vice President J.D. Vance in conjunction with Trump who has fed the same xenophobic drumbeat, recently unleashing a racist tirade in which he called Somali immigrants “garbage”. Days later his regime froze more than $10 billion in childcare and family assistance funds to Minnesota, and four other Democratic Party led states (CA, CO, IL, NY).
The murder of Renee Good, however, is what Operation Metro Surge looks like in reality. Not a press release, not a talking point, but a mother dead in her car, shot point-blank, in broad daylight, trying to keep her neighbors safe.
