This statement was originally published by Jornada Se Acadarib las Promesas and Colectiva Feminista en Construccion. As a newspaper that staunchly upholds anti-imperialism, we have republished this statement as a show of solidarity with our Puerto Rican comrades in the fight against United States imperialism and the targeting of activists by imperialist state governments and their dogs.
According to a journalistic report published in The Latino Newsletter, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Puerto Rico Police would have met from 2018 to the present to discuss possible threats of “internal terrorism”, pointing as such to the groups Jornada se Acabar las Promesas (Jornada) and the Collective Feminista en Acción (la Colectiva). Those of us who signed this declaration strongly support the two sister organizations in their clear and accurate manifestations to combat the iniquities imposed by the invading government and the colonial government. We denounce political persecution and carpeteo, and we reaffirm ourselves in the defense of the rights of the peoples, as well as the human, civil and constitutional rights of the organizations and people we demonstrate.
In Puerto Rico, the persecution against those who are outraged, organize themselves and fight for justice and collective rights, is not new. Surveillance and carpeting – which today are carried out not only in the traditional way, but also electronically and digitally – have been part of the price to pay for making complaints of violations of human, social and political rights. The local puppet government is complicit in this persecution at the service of the metropolis, not of our people or for our citizen security.
The policies announced by President Trump at the end of September, designating as alleged domestic terrorism any thought that is positioned against fascism or the so-called “traditional values”, together with the military deployment against the population that exercises its constitutional right to protest, reveal the manipulation and crude repression of the federal government towards its own citizens, as well as the population of its colonial possessions.
Given this scenario, the carpeting against those who defend the interests of the Puerto Rican people revives the flame of collective indignation and strengthens concerted action. Although the government’s repression requires us to be more careful, it also highlights the deep solidarity that exists among those of us who promote a fairer present and future for our country.
Therefore, we make an alert call to the people to repudiate the practices that threaten those who organize, dissent and raise their voices. At the same time, we reaffirm our commitment to unity and collective struggle, because it has been precisely solidarity between peoples and organizations that has allowed us to resist, Jornada Se Acadarib las Promesas and Colectiva Feminista en Construccionadvance and strengthen ourselves in the face of repression at other times in history. For socio-political-based organizations, if they touch one, they touch all of us. We will continue to denounce, propose, mobilize, and demonstrate with integrity and dignity. At a firm pace.
The fight continues with more strength, more clarity and more dedication!
